Darfur Needs UN Troops
President Bush on Friday called on the government of the Sudan to approve an urgently needed United Nations peacekeeping force for Darfur. Continued international pressure of this sort is clearly needed. If the Sudan continues to balk at the proposed U.N. mission, it will be impossible to end the humanitarian tragedy in Darfur. In that case, the blame must fall equally on a genocidal Sudanese leadership and the cynical decision of China to prevent the international community from holding that leadership responsible through United Nations sanctions.
