End terror in Darfur

''Never again.'' These are the words spoken after the Nazi regime in Europe ended. We swore that we would never let our guard down again. We would not let innocent people suffer. Unfortunately, we have failed.

A horrible genocide is occurring in Darfur, in Sudan. Parents are losing their children, children are losing their parents and, worse, not enough is being done to stop this massacre. Since 2003, more than 300,000 people have been viciously murdered, and more than two million more have been displaced.

In 2001, more than 3,000 Americans died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Our country was almost paralyzed. The American spirit was temporarily destroyed, and there was fear in citizens' hearts. All of this for 3,000 lives. But 300,000 lives have been taken so far in Sudan, and not enough has been done.

In Darfur, a military-based group called the janjaweed, consisting mainly of Arab tribes, is persecuting black Africans. If this massacre were happening in the United States, life as we know it would be put on hold, and the tragedy would be put to an end. Unfortunately, it is occurring in an area with little media and political attention. It is not getting the attention and concern that it deserves.

Foreigners typically have a negative perception of our country. For instance, they think that we don't belong in Iraq. However, a nation as powerful as ours belongs in Darfur. Read more >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This Article grabbed a hold on my attention to global issues. After reading this article and seeing that not a single person has commented on any of these blogs leaves me feeling sick with what was once called "the global village". Now after reading this and seeing that nothing is being done about the attrocities in Darfur I'm horrified and wonder how people can go on in their lives feeling good about themselves. Since 2003 I have not heard one news story about Darfur's suffering. I'm stunned that it has never been brought up and I hope that the international community will pay attention to this small community of suffering refuges that are under constant fear of the people who are trying to kill them. 300,000! PEOPLE ARE DEAD! AND NO ONE HAS BOTHERED TO REPORT THIS ON CNN WHAT KIND OF A WORLD ARE WE COMING TO?
People in Darfur NEED HELP, NEED REAL ACTIONS to be done in order to ensure they will survive in a global community without the constant threat of their lives being taken away by others who think they should control someone else's right to live. It's totally and absoloutly sick and twisted what is happening in the World and I hope the UN will do something before it's too late.

The events taking place in Darfur, Sudan are disturbing to anyone witnessing them. Knowing this, Why has nothing been set into motion against this mass genocide? The fact that the United Nations can not prove a genocide in Darfur is shocking when the proof is right infront of their eyes. For anyone to look me in the face and tell me there is no proof is insulting to my intelligence. To conclude, This substantial proof must be found before darfur's government succeeds in killing the african people within its country.

300,000 lives have been stolen in Darfur by the very people that are supposed to be protecting them and ensuring their welfare... The government. Filled with corruption, greed, and blood-lust, the government has been systematically murdering black Christians in and around Darfur since 2001. Why has this been ignored by the media for over five years? Simply because of their primary resource: oil. United States, China, Canada, all buy oil from Sudan. A troubled, beautiful country, people are being raped, mutilated and murdered and there seems to be no end in sight. Human rights are being violated daily and what has been done to stop it? Very little. Supposedly there are roadblocks, or “technicalities”, such as proving what is happening is indeed genocide. But the more likely scenario is that other nations simply do not want to get their hands dirty with issues that do not directly affect them, putting precious oil resources in jeopardy. China is, after all, still receiving oil from Sudan.
How, when the blood is on the hands of President Omar-al-Bashir, are opposing countries supposed to provide confirmation of genocide? Is the president himself going to turn over evidence? He would be hammering the nails in his own coffin, and only a lunatic would perform that act. Coverage of events has been minimal at best, but evidence still exists. Pictures, accounts, reports, the proof is there, but apparently it is still not enough. Just this summer a warrant for the president’s arrest was issued. Where is he currently? Certainly not behind bars or, better yet, six feet below ground where he belongs. He is still terrorizing Sudanese civilians, promoting more bloodshed, and putting up veils, blocking pertinent investigations.
I am absolutely disgusted that I am just learning of the happenings in Darfur, completely ignorant to the massive loss of human life abroad. Darfur is, after all, a fairly large country with a population of 7,000,000, not a desolate island with but a few inhabitants. Why should black Christians in Sudan be valued less than a Canadian or American? Their hearts beat, as ours do; they weep when pain, loss, or sorrow, takes hold of their body and souls, leaving them stricken, as we do. The loss of 3,000 lives in New York on September 11th, 2001 caused complete and utter chaos, putting America on a warpath. But the loss of 100 times as many lives have been over-looked and ignored because no one wants to shell out the money to help. Helping means troops, funds, nourishment, STOP BUYING OIL FROM SUDAN, aircrafts, and responsibility. Helping means money. Unfortunately “money” does “make the world go ‘round”. But how could you possibly put a price on a defenseless two-year-old needing protection, because his mother was raped and murdered?
